is an analysis of Bush's die-hard support in the US, an attempt to answer the question "Why is his approval rating, though an all-time low, still so high?"

  • Unfortunately, that is the view of the rest of the world.
I believe it is incorrect, if you look at the lastest polls, Bush is sinking fast.
I don't think he was actually elected in either of the last two elections.
So why is he President?? That is the question that needs answering.

      <<So why is he President?>>

Countries often get the leaders they deserve. The true moral fiber of this country (as distinct from the moral values of right-wing chest-thumpers) has hit a new low. We allowed a liar, a coward, a thief to steal the elections of 2000 and 2004. Why? Because we are lazy and enjoy our consumer comforts. And we can't be bothered to pay attention from one news cycle to the next, or to muster enough critical thinking to stand up and fight. Witness the timid Democrats in Congress, always sticking their fingers in the air to see which way the polls blow rather than taking principled stands.

Unfortunately, we have reached an event horizon where our creature comforts and our rights and freedom to pursue happiness are about to be sucked into the black hole of economic collapse and authoritarian rule by wealthy elites who could care less about the human misery they bring to us and the world. Probably the only way out is to go through it. This country has been hankering for fascism for quite a while. Now we're going to bow down and get what we deserve.

But down the road, out of the ruins, the leafy buds of democracy may once again tenderly seek the light.
      • Fascism has been lurking in this country since it became a country.
The good guys win each generation just long enough for the people to forget and think that when they are facing the bad guys, it is for the first time.

I think it is more a battle of good and evil. Actually I don't even know how to describe it without sounding like a loon.

I don't think peoples heads in the sand are completely their own fault.
We become conditioned to accept the unacceptable, with so much information coming at us so fast, how do we pick just one issue and make it a cause, while the other equally important issues go by?

i read on salon, maybe about a month ago (sorry no time for link now), that although Bush's approval rating was at a record-setting low, a poll still showed that people still would've picked him over Kerry if the election was held today.

That's how pathetic the Democratic Party is. It's really a function of the 2 party political binopoly. I think there's an implicit approval of democrats that goes along with the disapproval of Bush in a lot of people's minds. They think, ‘Is Bush perfect? No. Is Bush better than my only other option (Kerry), yes.’ I guess if you watch enough TV you begin to believe that either the democrats are right, or the republicans are right.

A two party system is awfully close to a one party system which is essentially a totalitarian government.

no i don't support or approve of Bush. yes i voted for Kerry. even if he is an awful choice for President.
